Baked Banana Bliss

From Virginia in the United States

bananas

a natural sweetener (such as honey if your child is over the age of 1, maple syrup, or for older babies or for you, you can use brown sugar)

drop (or drops) of vanilla

sprinkle of cinnamon

  1. Set the oven to 350 F.
  2. Slice the bananas thinly and place in a baking dish. I like to make ours in personal chowder cups so that we each have our own. This is also helpful if you would like to make some for older kids or yourself and want to use sugar without giving sugar to your baby.
  3. Lightly drizzle syrup over your bananas, or if you choose to use sugar, sprinkle it on top.
  4. Add a drop or so of vanilla and stir it well.
  5. Bake for about 8-10 minutes, but watching closely. You want the bananas to offer up their natural juices and become very soft, almost mushy.
  6. Remove from the oven and dust lightly with cinnamon.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
  8. You can puree for younger babies, or keep it the way it is for older babies.

Note: This recipe has a lot of natural sweetness from the bananas so don’t overdo it on the sweetener. The purpose of the syrup is just to add some extra flavor.

Peachy Banana Rice Pudding

From Kristin in the United States

1 tbsp rice cereal

1 tbsp breastmilk or formula

1 slice peach

1 slice banana

Cinnamon

  1. Cut peach and banana both into very small chunks.

Chewy Fruit Snacks

From Virginia in the United States

16 oz dried fruit of your baby’s liking

3-4 cups water

  1. Chop your dried fruit up into small, manageable pieces. Apricots are delicious and easy to obtain.
  2. Place the chopped dried fruit in a sauce pan and cover with water (around 3-4 cups).
  3. Bring to a boil and boil until fruit is very tender. This will be about 10 minutes, but may be longer or shorter depending on the type of fruit you are using.
  4. While your fruit is boiling, line a baking sheet with foil and grease with butter or cooking spray.
  5. Preheat your oven to 225 degrees. (I had to play around with the temperature to get it perfect, depending on how your oven behaves you may have to adjust the temperature).
  6. Once your fruit is very soft, drain the water (the fruit will retain some water, which will help you in the next step).
  7. Put your fruit into your baby food grinder, blender, bullet or whatever you use to make purees.
  8. Grind the fruit until it makes a very smooth puree, then dump it onto the foil and spread until it is very thin.
  9. Use a spatula or spoon to flatten it out and get it into every corner of the baking sheet. Make sure there aren’t any holes and that it is evenly spread on your foil.
  10. Put your fruity creation into the oven and set your timer for 35 minutes. Once your timer goes off, turn off your oven and go to bed.
  11. Leave the tray in the cooling oven overnight, then the next morning take out your chewy fruit snacks, cut with a pizza cutter into any shape or design you like (I cut them into 24 bars, one vertical cut, then 12 on each side of the pan.) Peel off of the foil.
  12. Voila! You are done!
