Aila’s Amazing Journey!New Zealand
Our miracle baby!
Oct 5 2007
Our precious baby, Aila Hauora, celebrated her first birthday on September 25.
A year ago, we were supposed to fly to the Philippines, our home country (from Christchurch, New Zealand, where we are currently staying for our studies) to give birth to our first child.
A day before our flight, 25 September 2006, our lovely baby, Aila Hauora, was born. Even if we could not wait to see her, we did not expect that she would arrive too soon; she was only 32 weeks old then and was very tiny.
Aila was born prematurely (8 weeks early); as a consequence she had to be tube-fed for quite a long time. Because of this, she found it difficult to breast-feed and even to feed from the bottle. Ama and Ina (this is how Aila calls us: Ama for father and Ina for mother), together with some specialists, even had to train her to bottle feed properly.
Our Aila had to stay in the neonatal unit (of the Christchurch Womens Hospital) for 102 days. But after she was discharged from the hospital, she never looked back. She has become the healthy baby that we had prayed for. She fed very well and gained enough weight for her operation.
She was diagnosed to have a heart problem when she was still in Inas womb and the doctors said that she needed to have her heart operated on at six months old. And that was just what happened; she underwent an operation to patch some holes in her heart.
Everything is perfect with Aila now, she has grown beautifully. God has healed her, just like He promised. She is now very healthy and is a very good eater. She is not fussy with food. She likes avocado, banana, spinach, peaches, pineapple, yoghurt (especially lemon meringue), corn and rice cereals dipped in yoghurt, biscuits, tuna, and cheese. She also eats muesli, bread with vegemite (yeast spread), potato, creamed corn, mince meat (only if its very fine), egg yolk, and chicken. She also enjoys drinking water.
Just a few days ago she was not that fond of rice and vegetables that come in bigger pieces like peas, carrots, and broccoli. But we just kept on giving these to her, and yesterday she finished her meal of rice, carrots, onions, and zucchini. Sometimes when we see her eating very well, we can not believe that she is the same baby who had feeding difficulties when she was very small. We are amazed with her development.
Our family and friends say that she is a miracle baby, and we agree. We love her very much. We praise God for everything He has done in our babys life.
She is indeed a gift from God.
