Recommended Travel Cots And Portable Cribs
These travel cots and portable cribs are ideal for your tiny traveller – it’s reassuring to know that he can sleep safely and comfortably wherever you go!
- Bringing your own cot when visiting a hotel means you don’t need to rely on using one provided by them, removing any concerns about the cot’s cleanliness or suitability for your baby.
They are also great for visits to family and friends, where a standard cot or crib might not be available.
- Many travel cots/portable cribs are also designed to be used as playpens or playards and have high, meshed sides. This can be a particularly useful feature if you’re unsure whether the accommodation you’ll be staying in is safe for your baby – you may not have the luxury of a baby gate, for example, so the cot will provide a safe environment for him to play.

BABYBJORN Travel Crib Light
This travel crib has a hefty price tag – but is it worth those extra dollars? Our opinion is – if you can afford the Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light – then buy it… it will be money well spent! Amazingly light in weight – yet extremely sturdy and strong – this crib has to be the easiest of all travel cribs to assemble. Virtually all you need to do is unfold it – and, unlike many other ‘easy’ to assemble cribs – this one is equally simple to put away afterwards! Taking into account its generous length (suitable for children up to 3 years of age) and its nice, comfy mattress, this is a crib that will give lots of service and is worth every penny!
phil&teds Traveller Crib, Black
These travel cots have their pros and cons! They are a bit fiddly to put together and we strongly recommend having a trial run before your set off on your trip! On the plus side, though, these are some of the lightest travel cots around – weighing only 7 lbs. You can also purchase a UV protective mesh cover which doubles up as an insect net, so they’re good for indoor or outdoor use. In our opinion, if you do a lot of camping or regularly visit the beach, this is the ideal cot for you!
Graco Travel Lite Crib with Stages, Manor
The Graco Travel Lite Pack N Play is around a fifth smaller than other Pack N Plays and weighs under 20lbs. It has all the great features you’d expect from a Pack N Play and more, including an indoor canopy, soft toys, a removable bassinet and easy, push-button folding.
BRICA Fold N’ Go Travel Bassinet
With mesh sides to keep the air circulating around your baby, this is a great travel crib for use at home, when visiting relatives or when taking a vacation. It’s super easy to set up and fold nicely into its own carrying bag, so it’s easy to pop in your luggage or throw in the back of your car.
Joovy New Room2 Portable Playard, Black
The Joovy New Room2 is so much more than just a travel crib – it actually provides an impressive 10 square feet of safe play space for your baby, making it big enough for twins! This playard is very robust and sturdy – subsequently it’s also quite heavy. Whilst it’s still portable – it comes with a bag for travel – we don’t recommend this one for flying with your baby. But for any other purpose – particularly if you’re looking for something a little larger than many traditional travel cribs – it’s ideal.
Baby Delight Snuggle Nest Traveler
A snuggle nest is a great idea if you want to co-sleep but have concerns about doing so.
BabyHome Dream Portable Baby Cot – Turqouise
This high-end travel crib will ensure your younger baby sleeps safe and sound when you’re away from home and is light enough (at only 13 lb) to be easy for you to carry wherever you go. The high density foam mattress is specially designed to prevent your child from ever becoming caught between the crib side and the mattress. The legs can be adjusted to suit your needs, so the crib can serve as a rocker, fixed crib, or be wheeled around the house. You can put it up (and take it down!) in minutes – and it’s easy to keep clean, with a fabric cover you can remove from the frame for washing.
Travel Cots Available In The UK
NScessity Small UV Travel Centre (Blue)
One of our favourite travel cots available in the UK – this ultra-portable design pops up, so assembly is as easy as can be. Putting it away again takes a little practice, but it can be done quickly once you get the hang of it. It has a comfy, self-inflating mattress and offers SPF25 sun protection, so it can be used indoors or outside. The price is great, too!
Gro Anywhere Blackout Blind
A good solution to getting baby to sleep in rooms that are too light (either when on holiday or even at home) is this handy black-out blind. It has suckers to attach it to the window and you simply roll it up and store it in its travel bag (included) when you’re finished with it.
Graco Contour Electra Travel Cot – Benny and Bell
This versatile model can be used as a newborn crib, travel cot or a playpen – and it has LOADS of great features. Suitable from birth, this cot is very simple to fold. It includes a changing station, night light and a music centre – plus a toy bar and a carry bag. You can set the bassinette mattress on a timer to gently vibrate – a great way to soothe a fussy baby. A great buy for younger babies!
Koo-di 80 x 50 x 58 cm Pop Up Travel Bassinette (Lime/ Lemon)
Travel cots don’t come much simpler than this! You can use it from birth until your baby is able to sit up unaided. It’s very lightweight and pops up easily!
BabyDan Travel Cot (Black)
Comfortable enough to use as a travel cot – large enough to use as a playpen! The popular BabyDan is well constructed, lightweight and easy to assemble.
BABYBJÖRN Travel Cot (Silver)
Suitable from birth through to age 3, the Babybjorn is a lightweight travel cot, weighing in at only 13 pounds! Despite its weight, it’s extremely sturdy and flawlessly constructed of high quality materials. It folds down into a smart carrying bag and is perfect for trips to visit friends and family, as well as holidays further afield.
Hauck Dream ‘n’ Play Travel Cot (Yellow and Light Blue)
A great price for a great travel cot! At under £50 this is one of the less expensive cots around, but it’s still generously sized and we LOVE the colours. It’s a little more difficult to put up than some of the ‘pop up’ designs, but the instructions include clear diagrams, so you’ll soon get the hang of it!
Littlelife Arc-2 Travel Cot
These portable cots are ideal for babies from 6 months of age and are big enough to last until your little one is around 3 years of age. There’s no need to buy a bug net, either, as these cots come with mosquito-proof mesh and a top panel that you can just unzip and remove when you don’t need it! The biggest bonus of all? They’re amazingly lightweight, at under 5 lbs!
