Smoothies for Babies – Creative Recipes from our Readers
Smoothies for babies are a delicious and easy way to incorporate extra nutrients into your child’s diet.
They’re particularly useful for babies who have problems accepting textured foods and are perfect for little ones who might refuse the ingredients in their ‘whole’ form… but will slurp away happily when blended into a creamy (and hard to identify) consistency!
These wonderful recipes were submitted by our readers, whose babies are already enjoying these creative concoctions!

Some of these recipes contain berries. Some babies react to strawberries, raspberries or blackberries, so you may wish to wait until your baby is at least 12 months before introducing those particular recipes. Blueberries, however, are far less likely to cause any reactions.
Smoothies for Babies – Single Serving Fruit Porridge Smoothie

1/4 cup (1 oz) uncooked oatmeal
1/4 cup (2 oz) fresh blueberries (or other berry)
2 tbsp apple juice
1. Place dry oatmeal in blender to break it up.
2. Once oatmeal looks almost like dust, pour in the berries and juice(s).
3. Blend again until berries are chopped up and everything is well mixed and it looks like a smoothie.
4. Now pour mixture from blender to a cup or bowl for your baby to enjoy. Makes one serving.
A perfect quick meal!
Smoothies for Babies – Protein-Packed Smoothie for Two

1 cup (8 oz) cottage cheese
1 cup (8 oz) flavored or plain yogurt, purchased or home-made
1 cup (8 oz) baby’s favorite fruit, prepared (cored, stems removed, etc.)
6 – 8 ice cubes
1. Place all items in a blender.
2. Blend until mixture is smooth. Serve at once.
Makes one serving each for mother and baby! Note: This recipe is great for breakfast,
lunch, or a healthy snack!

2 cups strawberries (chopped very small)
2 oz (1/4 cup) prepared milk (I use formula for this)
1 cup (8 fl oz) yogurt
infant apple juice
1. Put strawberries in blender until pureed.
2. Add milk of your choice and then add yogurt and a dash of apple juice.
3. Blend until mixed, then add 4 ice cubes and mix until well blended. This makes lots for mom and baby to share!

2 bananas mashed
2 tbsp papaya, mashed
1 tbsp coconut cream
apple juice as needed
1. Peel banana and mash.
2. Peel papaya and scoop out enough to make 2 tbsps. Mash with banana.
3. Squeeze 1 tbsp coconut cream from the package and add to mixture.
4. Blend in a food processor, adding apple juice until you get the thickness you want.
This recipe is good for children with swallowing disabilities (especially cerebral palsy) and underweight children.
Smoothies for Babies: – Fruity Toddler Smoothie

1 cup whole milk or soy milk
1 cup frozen berries (note from editor – blueberries would be the best option if your baby is under 12 months of age)
1 tsp ground flax (optional)
1 tsp wheat germ (optional)
1 tsp sweetener of your choice (or nothing at all – your baby is sweet enough!)
1/8 tsp. vanilla
Place all ingredients in blender, pulse until pourable. Pour into sippy cup!
Smoothies for Babies – Sore Throat Smoothie

1-2 Tbsp or an “ice cube” size sweet veggie or fruit puree (I used sweet potatoes and peaches)
1.5 Tbsp plain whole-milk yogurt
1-2 oz breast milk or formula
water to desired consistency
1. Put puree(s) in sippy cup. Defrost if necessary.
2. Add yogurt and milk, stir.
3. Add cinnamon if it has been safely introduced to your child.
4. Add water until smoothie reaches a consistency your baby can handle.
When my child had a sore throat, this was one of the few things he was willing to swallow.
Smoothies for Babies – Apple Colada

2 pineapple rings
2 tablespoons unsweetened coconut cream
1/2 cup apple juice
Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth and frothy.
Voila!! Your apple pina colada is ready to be served immediately or chilled. YUMMY!!
Smoothies for Babies – Indian Mango Lassi

one whole mango
half cup (4 oz) of plain organic yogurt.
a pinch of nutmeg (or cinnamon)
quarter of a cup (2 fl oz) of organic milk.
half a table spoon of sugar (note from editor – although we understand that sugar is commonly used in making lassi, we recommend omitting it when making lassi for your baby)
You will need a large bowl, a blender, a sharp knife, and a whisk.
1. In the large bowl, pour in the organic yogurt, milk, nutmeg, and sugar (if using).
2. Whisk until all ingredients are well-mixed and fully incorporated together.
3. Add this mixture into your blender.
4. Peel the mango and strip the flesh off the pit. Put this flesh into the blender.
5. Puree until the mango is fully combined with the mixture.
Smoothies for Babies – Berry-Nana Frozen Treat

1 ripe banana
1 1/2 cups (approx 12 oz) favorite frozen berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries)
1 cup (8 oz) plain yogurt
1/2 cup (4 fl oz) apple juice
1. In a blender, whirl all of the ingredients until smooth.
2. Pour in small plastic containers (I used 2 ounce containers) or an ice cube tray and freeze.
3. When ready to serve, remove one portion and allow to soften for about 20 minutes on the counter or 10 seconds in the microwave.
4. Serve as you would ice cream. This is a healthier option though! Your baby may also like it as a smoothie right out of the blender.
Smoothies for Babies – More! More! More! Melon and Mint Cooler

4 cups roughly chopped honeydew melon
1 teaspoon dried mint or 2 teaspoons fresh mint
1 cup ice cubes
1. Place all ingredients in a blender.
2. Blend ingredients until they are in a fine slush.
3. Makes about 3 1/2 cups of melon and mint cooler.
Refrigerate any left-over drink.
Note: Ideal for toddlers, this is a very healthy and refreshing snack that would also be a nice drink with a meal.
You could substitute other melons of your preference in place of honeydew and I am sure it would also be wonderful.
I am enjoying a melon and mint cooler as I submit this recipe – it’s that good!
